Tips for a Great Event
Here's everything you need to know to make your porch a welcoming stop on the tour.
Before Guests Arrive
- •Display your official location number sign where it's easy to see from the street.
- •Have festival maps available for visitors to pick up.
- •Make sure your porch, yard and walkways are clean, safe and free of tripping hazards.
- •Remove hoses, toys, tools, extension cords, or anything that could create an obstacle.
- •If possible, provide a shaded area for guests and set out a few chairs or benches.
- •Make sure performers have the space they need and know where to set up. Point out electrical outlets if needed.
Welcoming Visitors
- •Greet guests as they arrive and help create a friendly, neighborhood atmosphere.
- •Be available to answer basic questions about the event.
- •Encourage guests to visit the other performance locations.
During the Performance
- •Allow guests to settle in before the music begins.
- •Help keep walkways and entrances clear.
- •Minimize distractions and background noise during performances.
- •If needed, remind guests to be respectful of your neighbors and property.
Between Performances
- •Thank everyone for coming.
- •Announce the next performance location and encourage visitors to continue the tour.
- •Let guests know when the next performance begins so they can stay on schedule.
- •Hand out maps to anyone who doesn't have one.
Hospitality (Optional)
You're not expected to provide refreshments, but if you'd like to:
- •Offer bottled water or a beverage.
- •Set out light snacks.
- •Provide sunscreen or bug spray if appropriate.
- •Create a comfortable gathering space.
These are thoughtful extras — not requirements.
Safety First
- •Keep children and guests away from any hazards.
- •Ensure pathways remain clear throughout the event.
- •Know where the nearest restroom is and be familiar with parking recommendations in your area.
- •Keep pets secured if they may be uncomfortable around crowds.
- •In case of an emergency, call 911 first, then notify an event volunteer or organizer.
Most Important of All...
Relax, enjoy the music, and help create a welcoming experience for everyone. A friendly greeting and a little neighborhood hospitality go a long way toward making Play Music on the Porch a memorable community event.
